Should I work for free?

Neat flow chart by Jessica Hische. Very handy and humorous and will help you figure out whether or not a project should be done pro-bono or if the client should "make it rain". You can buy it as a 5-color letterpress print on her website. Maybe I'll invest in it to hang in my studio one day?

Infographics Muse

The Cool Infographics Blog has quickly grown to be one of the top sites in the information design industry. Inspiration for web and graphic designers, and for a current graphic problems project dealing with data collected on costs at the 2011 Utah State Fair.

Also, I just discovered a new app (for all you iPhone people), just Infographics: by Column Five Media.

daily drop cap

Daily drop Cap is a project that Jessica Hische started in September of 2009 in which she illustrated a decorative letter every day (or most every day). The project continued through twelve alphabets and are available for non-commercial use as drop caps for personal blogs, etc. See the full project here. And then here are a few of my favorites.

veer

Veer has been specifically designed as an online publication, with fully clickable contents page, and embedded video, audio and visual work, in addition to text. Here are a few new font releases. I always enjoy their type specimen. Check them out here. Merchandise is always fun too. They have nice iPhone covers.

camera guy

hey camera. i can't wait for you to get here!
After weeks and weeks of camera deliberation, I finally ordered this cool guy. He's coming in the mail sometime this week.

site envy

Jessica Hische is a typographer and illustrator working in Brooklyn, New York. She has “Type” tattooed on her left tricep. She is young, vibrant and enormously talented. Her work is stunning and inspirational. After graduating from Tyler School of Art with a degree in Graphic Design, she worked for Headcase Design in Philadelphia before taking a position as Senior Designer at Louise Fili Ltd. While working for Louise, she continued developing her freelance career, working for clients such as Tiffany & Co., Chronicle Books, and The New York Times. In September 2009, after two and a half years of little sleep and a lot of hand lettering, she left Louise Fili to pursue her freelance career further. Jessica has been featured in most major design and illustration publications including Communication Arts, Print Magazine, How Magazine, The Graphis Design Annual, American Illustration and the Society of Illustrators. She was featured as one of Step Magazine’s 25 Emerging Artists, Communication Arts “Fresh”, Print Magazine’s New Visual Artists 2009 (commonly referred to as Print’s 20 under 30), and The Art Directors Club Young Guns.

Jessica spends most of her non-working hours at home watching Battlestar Galactica with her talented better half and their two kitties, or out and about consuming pork-fat rich meals and fancy cocktails.

I envy her website! Hopefully I can make mine look as neat as hers one day. Also, I just started following her on twitter and it's a fun thing. Visit her website here.
